NewRo Runners: Winter Warriors Edition (Plus Weekend Routes 2/15-2/16)
This week: Treadmill confessions, weekend routes, and how a search for running paths led to NewRo friendships. Plus: Spring races to get you moving! ⬇️
From the Sole of My Shoe: Treadmill Confessions
The thermometer reads twenty degrees, and my NordicTrack beckons with its promises of safety and climate control. Let's be honest: during these dark winter weekdays, you'll find me logging most of my miles in my home gym, coffee within reach, watching the sunrise through my window instead of dodging black ice on pre-dawn streets. It's not glamorous, but it's smart—and it keeps me strong for what I really look forward to: weekend mornings with NewRo Runners.
Saturday and Sunday are worth the self-preservation. The sun's actually up, the routes are more visible, and most importantly, I'm not out there alone.
Last weekend reinforced my running mantra. As our group navigated the new Bronxville route, Cheryl Broas turned what could have been just another training run into an impromptu architecture tour. After an unexpectedly steep hill, she pointed out houses designed by master architects, transforming our usual Saturday miles into something more memorable. That's the thing about winter running with NewRo – you never know what you'll discover when you show up.
Some days, the treadmill is absolutely the right call—especially during those dark winter mornings. My NordicTrack has been a faithful training partner through many a storm. But on weekends when the skies are clear, when daylight and company beckon, the reward of showing up outdoors is hard to beat. Because while my treadmill can track my splits perfectly, it can't replicate the quiet conversations at mile three, or the way we naturally pair off into pace groups, or the shared triumph of finishing a route together, trading stories and breath clouds in the morning light.
See you Saturday at 7:50, friends. The forecast says rain and mid-thirties—perfect weather for earning those post-run coffee bragging rights.

Sole Mates: Who's Who in NewRo
Because the best part of running is who you meet along the way.
Meet Marissa Frusciante, Your President Emeritus
Ten years ago, Marissa was just looking for running routes in her new neighborhood. Instead, she found NewRo Runners, became club president, and helped build the community we all love today. Here's her story:
How'd you find your way to NewRo Runners?
House hunting in New Rochelle back in 2013 led to more than just a new address. As an avid runner, I went looking for routes and found my running family instead!
What's your ideal running weather? (Be honest - we won't judge)
50-60 degrees and partly cloudy!
Most memorable running moment - triumph or disaster?
Running through Cinderella's Castle in Disney World!
What keeps you coming back to group runs?
The conversations, the connections, and the way every run feels like catching up with old friends - even when meeting new ones!
Favorite local route and why?
Rye Beach or Larchmont - I love running by the water.
Solo run soundtrack? (When you're not chatting with the crew)
Gotta love a good 90's pop or alternative music track!
Treadmill: necessary evil or secret love affair?
Not so secret love affair! I love my Peloton and all of the classes! Join the NewRo Runners group!
